A Russian jet-powered drone struck a railway platform at Dnipro’s main station as passengers prepared to board a commuter train for Zaporizhzhia, Ukrainian authorities say. At least 13 people were killed and five wounded. Ukraine’s state railway operator says there had already been a warning of “heightened danger” before the impact. Yet passengers remained on the platform and the train was preparing to depart when the drone reached one of Ukraine’s major transport hubs. The incident puts renewed attention on Ukraine’s ability to detect and intercept incoming weapons before they reach populated areas and critical infrastructure. Dnipro is a major industrial and logistical centre, while Ukraine’s railway network remains crucial for civilian movement during the war. The warning had already been issued. The drone nevertheless reached the station — leaving Ukrainian authorities confronting both the casualties and questions over how the strike penetrated so deep.
